What is HYROX and how does it work?

HYROX is a global fitness race that pairs eight 1-kilometre runs with eight functional workout stations — SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmer's carry, sandbag lunges, and wall balls. The format is identical worldwide, so every athlete races the same standardized course, indoors, on a fixed sequence.

Run · Station · Run

Eight 1 km runs alternated with eight functional stations. Steady output beats hero pacing — the engine wins.

Standardized Globally

Same course, same loads, same order in every host city. Your time in Montreal is comparable to a time in Berlin or Chicago.

Open to Every Level

Categories run from Open to Pro, plus Doubles and Relay. First-time racers train alongside seasoned competitors.

What HYROX programs run at Olympia?

Olympia Performance runs three HYROX tracks at 16869 Hymus: ongoing HYROX classes for general race fitness, structured race prep blocks tied to the next event, and personal fitness tests that benchmark every station and every run split. All three are coach-led and scaled to the athlete in front of the coach.

HYROX Classes

Coach-led group sessions that build the engine and station strength HYROX rewards. Programmed year-round so you stay race-fit between events.

Race Prep Blocks

Structured multi-week blocks that peak you for a target race. Volume, intensity, and station work progress on a calendar tied to event day.

Personal Fitness Tests

Benchmark every HYROX station, every 1 km run split, and overall pacing. Use the data to set realistic goal times and target the right weaknesses.

What does a HYROX training session look like?

A typical session runs 60 minutes: a coach-led warm-up, a running block, a station block, and a mixed-modal finisher that rehearses the run-to-station transition. Coaches call pacing, technique, and loading on every station so the work targets race performance, not random fatigue.

  1. 0-10 min — Warm-up. Mobility, activation, and a primer for the day's running and station work.
  2. 10-25 min — Running block. Tempo, threshold, or interval work scaled to your current run engine.
  3. 25-45 min — Station block. Sled, SkiErg, row, wall ball, lunge, or carry work with coached technique.
  4. 45-60 min — Run-to-station finisher. Mixed-modal piece that drills race-day transitions under fatigue.

Who is HYROX training for?

HYROX training is for any adult who wants a measurable engine — runners, lifters, CrossFit athletes, weekend warriors, and first-time racers all train at Olympia. No experience required to begin. Coaches build the engine from the ground up and scale every session to the athlete's current capacity.

First-time HYROX racers

You've never raced. We start with running mechanics, station technique, and a realistic capacity build so your first race feels prepared, not survived.

Returning competitors

You've raced before and want a faster time. Race prep blocks target your weakest stations and run splits with structured volume and intensity.

Doubles & Relay teams

Train with your partner or relay team at Olympia. Coaches program transitions, pacing strategy, and station handoffs together — not as solo work.

Cross-training athletes

Runners adding strength, lifters adding an engine, or CrossFit athletes wanting a structured race target. HYROX is the perfect cross-training goal.

HYROX training FAQ

Do I need experience to start HYROX training?

No experience is required. HYROX classes at Olympia welcome first-time racers and athletes who have never run a kilometre under load. Coaches build the engine from the ground up — running mechanics, station technique, then race-pacing — so your first event feels prepared, not improvised.

How long does a HYROX race prep block take?

Race prep blocks typically run 8 to 12 weeks before a target event. Volume, run intensity, and station loading progress week by week and peak in the final two weeks. Athletes already in HYROX classes can plug into a block; new athletes start with a fitness test first.

What is the HYROX personal fitness test?

The personal fitness test benchmarks every HYROX station and every 1 km run split under controlled conditions. The data shows your weakest station, your fade pattern across runs, and a realistic goal time. Coaches use the result to target your race prep block at the right weaknesses.

Can I train for HYROX Doubles or Relay at Olympia?

Yes. Doubles and Relay teams train together at 16869 Hymus. Coaches program transition strategy, pacing splits, and station handoffs as partner work — not two solo programs. Bring your partner or relay team to the free facility tour and we'll map out a shared block.
